Most people rely on their car in order to get from A to B, commute to work, go shopping, take their children to school or to carry out many other general errands.
But recently, running a car – especially with the surge in the cost of petrol – has made owning a car even more of a struggle, adding to any outstanding debt problems that you may already have.
However, there are ways in which you can make your car more efficient and make your petrol go further (literally). Some of these are related to how you look after your car, such as:
- Keep your tyres inflated – check the pressure of your tyres is correct, because if they are not kept properly inflated your car has to work harder to get you anywhere.
- Take out unnecessary loads – the more weight you carry, the more petrol you need, so take unnecessary items out of your the boot of your car.
- Remove unused roofracks or trailers – these add to the amount of drag produced by your vehicle which can massively affect your car’s fuel consumption.
- Don’t use your air conditioning – if your car has air conditioning then try not to use it unless you really need to. Air conditioning can use a lot of fuel in a car so you could be saving a lot by not using it.
Other ways in which to save on your fuel are related to how you drive your vehicle:
- Don’t brake too hard – let the car slow down naturally so you make the most of the momentum that it has built up.
- Be aware of the gears – drive in the highest gear possible at all times as this requires less revs from your engine and uses less fuel.
- Accelerate carefully – rather than putting the accelerator to the floor, you should speed up smoothly. It will take slightly longer to get up to speed, but you’ll be using less fuel.

yes great tips. by following the above instructions we can save money.
