Debt management specialist, Chiltern, has launched a free online credit report service in order to give people worried about debt the chance to review their credit history without having to spend more money to do so.
“Credit reports can be a vital source of information for anyone with debt worries,” says Chiltern’s general manager, Jackie Newton.
“Our aim is simple – we want to let people access the information held about their finances for free. By doing so not only will they be able to see their full financial picture they’ll also be able to judge whether the information lenders refer to when making credit decisions is accurate. Credit files are so extensive that errors do happen from time to time, and the impact of an error can be very far reaching.”
The service, which is a UK first for professional debt management companies, is available to anybody visiting www.chiltern.uk.com and requires no credit or bank card details to be entered prior to accessing it. Once signed up, a password is posted to the user’s home address to ensure nobody is able to fraudulently access the report. Once received the password is simply entered on the website allowing the report to accessed and reviewed online.
“The beauty of the service is that there are no hidden catches,” continues Ms Newton. “Unlike others who offer free services, but require credit card details and will start withdrawing payments if you don’t remember to cancel in time, our service does exactly what it says it does – lets any member of the public review their credit report for free.”
The value added service, which is available to most parts of the UK now and will be available to all areas by early in the New Year, is the first in a range of initiatives Chiltern plans to unveil over the next few months.
“The intention is to become more than a debt management company, but a one stop shop for consumers with credit related issues,” says Ms Newton.
