British Gas price cuts

For the second time this year, customers of British Gas will be pleased to hear that their energy bills are being cut.

Yesterday the company announced to its eleven million gas and six million electricity customers that their prices would be reducing by 3% and 6% respectively.

This move should hopefully see other competitors follow suit, which will come as welcome relief to the many people whose household finances are already fully stretched. Continually, prices have risen over the past five years, with prices now almost 400% more expensive than they were in 2002.

Earlier this week, Ofgem, the energy watchdog, slammed two energy suppliers, EDF Energy and Scottish Power, for ripping off their customers by failing to cut their prices. Ofgem even suggested that customers of these companies should switch suppliers. By changing providers, dual fuel customers of Scottish Power could save up to £122 each year or £140 by leaving EDF Energy.

Recognising that our customers could benefit from a comparison facility, Chiltern recently launched an energy switching service that enables visitors to the website the ability to cut their utility bills. The site compares every provider’s available rates in their area and enables them to easily switch online, with many exclusive tariffs which are unavailable from the companies directly.
