4 hot money-saving tips for summer

The warm summer weather means a lot of us like to get outdoors and generally be a lot more active than usual. Summer is the season of fun but unfortunately it doesn’t come cheap; overspending now could leave you with debt problems further down the line.

Whatever you’re doing in the next few months, bear the following advice in mind to enjoy the summer without breaking the bank…

1.       At home

Staying in can sometimes be as expensive as going out. Keep bills down by hanging washing outside instead of using the dryer and if you have electric fans, make sure to use them sensibly (opening the windows is a better way of keeping cool).

2.       Festivals

Summer festivals are brilliant, but the ticket price isn’t always so hot. Get in for free by volunteering to work on the bars, for Oxfam, or even litter picking. You won’t have to work all weekend, so you’ll still experience loads of festival fun.

3.       Holidays and trips

Holidays are expensive, but there are other ways to get the same fun and relaxing experience. Consider trips and days out closer to home, taking advantage of all the free events in your area. For a more adventurous holiday, go camping or stay at a relatives in a different part of the country.

4.       Students

For students, summer is the perfect time to top up your student loan with a summer job. If you work hard in these months, you won’t have to worry about money when you start back in September.
